I love the show, just wish more people in the anti-communist sphere were more nuanced on the civil war. Not arguing for slavery, but that there were much better ways of sunsetting it than Thaddeus Stevens had in mind by introducing sectionalism to the congressional body and banishing southern democrats from votes. Alexander Harris goes into great depth on the topic in his book ”Resume of the Career of Thaddeus Stevens.” After Pennsylvania nullified the Sojourning Act of 1780 through passage of the Pennsylvania Act of 1847, folks were literally executing southern slaveholders for retrieving their constitutionally protected property. The world Stevens created in the south after Lincoln’s assassination was one of heavy retribution from the communist railroad lawyers, many of whom still control southern politics. Understanding these things unlocks a lot of insight into the recruitment of frustrated white MAGA voters.
